What a difference a day makes.
March 19th, 2008 , Posted in UncategorizedA big shout out to my girl Jen at EB Salon here in town for agreeing to tackle the mess from yesterday. It is always nice to see our friends there & this was a mission impossible so all those pretty faces made it more bearable!
My kids are looking a bit more presentable & I am learning laugh about the whole incident.
And for you ma…back & side views.
There are no words.
March 18th, 2008 , Posted in UncategorizedThis afternoon, I left to take my oldest to Girl Scouts. My younger 3 stayed with their dad while I ran some errands. My hubby called me while I was in the store to tell me that my 2 small children had decided to cut their hair while I was out. He had not surveyed the damage yet as he was still fuming & had sent them to their rooms. Apparently they had put on hoodies to try to hide their crime.
Now I am a freak about hair. I obsess a little about mine & to a lesser degree, my kids hair. I always make sure they have good haircuts, shiny clean & all of that. This was devastating not good news.
I arrived home to see piles of blond curls all over the bathroom. When I crept into their room, they were still wearing the hoods, eyes red rimmed from sobbing & hiding from me entirely.
It was not pretty friends. My baby girl had cut off most of her gorgeous blond curls. H had scalped himself.
Later, when I could laugh & breathe again, I snapped some snapshots.
They are both off to get fixed (whatever miracle worker gets that job, good luck!) tomorrow afternoon.
RIP golden locks. RIP.
H was so ashamed I gave him some privacy.
And this one. This one couldn’t be prouder. Just don’t break her Achey Breaky Heart.
It’s the Little Things.
March 18th, 2008 , Posted in UncategorizedIf you know me in real life, you know that my most favorite thing next to taking photos & breathing is childrens clothing. I love decorating my children with the same passion that others reserve for home decorating. If I had a million bucks in my pocket, a good portion of that would be spent not on things for myself but for pretty things for the girls to wear & an entire wardrobe of Tea Collection for my son.
My oldest 3 children played the game with me. They would wear whatever I put in their closets. I would make guesses about what they would like & voila!, they would wear it! I knew who liked jeans & sneaks. I knew that Anna loved dresses & that Sophia would sometimes wear them but only if they were A line & with pants or jeans underneath. I understood that Henry liked cool stuff on his shirts & that Anna liked the matching socks to whatever she was wearing.
When my 4th & my last baby came along, I was gonna go out guns a blazin! The cutest of the cute, the best of the best…cept for one thing. One pesky little problem. Grace was having none of it.
She quickly let me know that pants were simply intolerable. Dresses & skirts needed to be “spinny” & that leggings were preferred to tights but in the case that tights must be worn they should not at all match the items they were being worn under. Jackets could be refused if the sleeves were to “squeezy”. Tee shirts should be smallish & have many chocolate stains. If she suspected I was trying to guide her to something I liked, she would refuse it.
There are no words to express my disappointment over this. Her drawers are stuffed with things that have been declared unacceptable. Today though, there was some progress. I somehow managed to talk her into this dress & pants combo that still had tags on it. It was a miracle & definately worthy of a photo. It has been months since those legs have been covered in denim.

Egg Hunts & John Adams.
March 16th, 2008 , Posted in UncategorizedEgg hunts & John Adams. No, they are not related in any way. I am just simply to lazy to write out two different posts covering these two topics.
First, to John Adams. I majored in history in college & and am a complete history dork. I love it.
I love going to Williamsburg & musems & reinactments & any other place where I can look at yellowing documents, period couture or momuments to some long dead important person. I can’t help it~it is the way of my people. My Grandpa was a history nut & on down the line it passed.
To illustrate what a dork I am, while many eagerly anticipate another season of The Bachelor or the American Idol results show, I have been patiently waiting for more than a month for the HBO “John Adams” mini series to begin. It started tonight at 8 & I forced gently encouraged my two eldest children to join me in this historical event. They begrudgingly happily agreed.
It was wonderful & continues next Sunday at 9 which frankly, cannot come soon enough.
Can I get an Amen from other history dorks? Richard, are you out there?
Now, on to the subject of Egg Hunts…
My super awesome neighbor told me of an Egg Hunt up the street from our house at Fonthill (I could digress into another lengthly history lesson here but I shall spare you. Do Google though…fascinating!)
We all walked up together & it was a abundantly clear that this was no ordinary Egg Hunt. No my friends, this was a Paper Bag Hunt.
All over the brown end of winter grass were paper lunch sacks, stuffed with candy & strewn about. The brown sacks blended right into the brown grass. All the children were divided into age categories & the rules were given. The most important one being this.
It was the only one they had a sign for.
The little ones went first. My baby picked out one sack & called it a day. This thing was stuffed with about 5 lbs of candy. Who needs plastic eggs anyway? Seems like a lot more work to have captured 30 eggs to get the same amount of candy. Only in America do we host lazy Egg Hunts. Here is the loot & my curly girl enjoying it. Believe me, she could care less about the manner in which her drugs are delivered. Notice all the ADULTS behind her. To hell with the rules!
Here’s the best part. My little man was next up & he quickly dashed into the crowd. I waited & waited for him to reappear so I could snap a picture. When he finally emerged he looked dazed.
He had one Paper Sack in his basket as well. When I asked him how he did, he looked at me shaking his head & said, “I didn’t find one single egg out there.” I reminded him that they were using bags instead & he said “What kind of egg hunt is that?” Indeed, H. Hard to argue with clear logic like that.
And the winner is…
